Palo Alto and the other cities at the south end of San Francisco Bay lie in what was once a rich fruit and vegetable growing region where there were lots of agriculture, orchards, dairies, wineries and many food-processing industries. Now it is mostly wall to wall cities, and we call the area Silicon Valley.
