San Francisco Bay Area Real Estate     This region lies in what was once rich agricultural land. Until the early 1960's there were lots of vegetable farms, orchards, dairies, wineries and many food-processing industries. Industrial production developed significantly during and after World War II. Growth since the 1950's has been rapid. As the "dot com" stocks plunged, layoffs abounded causing large numbers of people to return to their home countries. Although still licking its wounds, the region has come back strongly, especially in terms of home buyers out-numbering home sellers.
