Redwood
City Real Estate
With the gold rush pioneers came the need for lumber to build piers, shingles and buildings. By 1849 the huge trees in the hills near present day Woodside and Portola Valley started providing lumber year round. A local creek provided a place for semi-deep water shipping out of the south bay. Logs and lumber were hauled by horse and mule trains to about where the intersection of Middlefield and Broadway are located today. Lumber ships took the wood down the creek and up the bay to where it was needed in places like San Francisco and Sacramento. Today our port is the only deepwater port in the south San Francisco Bay providing access for dry and liquid bulk, as well as outstanding recreational opportunities. By 1856, the community became the county seat of San Mateo County eleven years before it was officially incorporated. There are some historical homes that may be of interest to history buffs: One is the Lathrop House, a mansion built in 1863, now a post-Civil War museum on Hamilton Street. Another is the Filoli home built in the early 1900's located on Canada Road. It is on a 654 acre property with magnificent gardens that have rare trees, plants and flowers. It is open to tourists part of the year. If you feel our community might have the right home for you, feel free to contact us. We would be happy to show you the local neighborhoods.
Listing agents have written
contracts with sellers promising to get the highest possible price for
homes. Why on earth would someone call listing agents for information
about homes?
